Editor-in-Chief

Élder Antônio Sousa e Paiva

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil

I am currently a Professor of Plant Anatomy at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. As researcher my interest has focused on the mechanisms of secretion, cell biology and plant-environment interactions. I have been worked as Editor for Acta since 2009, becoming Editor-in-Chief in 2014. I realized that acting behind the scenes of science is as important as in the laboratory. In the editorial board we’ve got great advances for botanical science, and we stand out in ethical issues and respect for our authors. Besides science I like to observe the world and understand our role as animals on this planet. I enjoy cooking and sharing dreams with those I love.

I am currently a Professor of Cryptogamae Taxonomy at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. As researcher my interest has focused on the physiology of algae and ecological aspects of phytoplankton community. I have been worked as Assistant Editor for Acta since February 2015. In addition to my interest in botany, I like to observe all kinds of interactions among species belonging to different taxonomic groups and I specially love the birds behavior. I like to play sports and I love the fact that sports allow me to meet and socialize with different people, including those with other professional interests.

Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK

I study the taxonomy, systematics, biogeography, evolution and conservation of the guava family (Myrtaceae) with a focus on the fleshy fruited tribes Myrteae and Syzygieae. Myrteae is predominantly Neotropical and includes the hyper-diverse genera Myrcia s.l. and Eugenia; I have particular interest in the former.  I have interests in the ecology, evolution and conservation of tropical forests. I am based at the herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew where I also sit on the editorial boards of the Flora of the Guianas and Kew Bulletin and am an occasional editor of Phytotaxa.

Natalia Hanazaki

Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, SC, Brazil

I am a professor of Ecology, Ethnobotany, Ethnoecology and Human Ecology at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. My research interests are related to the local use of plant resources and their implications for the conservation of the biodiversity in a dynamic context. In this sense, I believe in the importance of the valorization of traditional knowledges as a tool for both biodiversity conservation and local development. I have been contributing with Acta Botanica Brasilica since March 2014 as Associate Editor (Ethnobotany). My other interests besides science include travel, sports, cello music, and good food.

Paulo Eugênio Oliveira

Paulo Takeo Sano

Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil

I am Associate Professor at Universidade de São Paulo – USP. My research fields are Plant Systematics and Education for Biodiversity, with focus on Biodiversity Conservation. Systematics studies, particularly Diversity and Evolution, are focused on Monocot species. My group has been working on conservation projects in high elevation areas known as “campos rupestres”. We have also carried out research with local communities, focused on their environmental perception, engaging local and scientific knowledge.

Pedro V. Eisenlohr

Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso, Alta Floresta, MT, Brazil

I am currently lecturer of Evolution and Plant Sciences at the State University of Mato Grosso. As researcher, my interest relies on plant species distribution, ecological modelling and conservation biogeography. I have been working as Associate Editor (Plant Ecology) for Acta since April 2016. I strongly believe that education transforms the world, and I also advocate the use of high-quality science as basis for conservation practices.

I am Titular Professor at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ – Museu Nacional. My research fields are Palynology and Taxonomy of Asteraceae. My interest has focused on the pollen morphology and palynotaxonomy of the various families (Angiosperms, Bryophyta and Pterydophyta s.l.) I have been worked as Editor for Acta since 2009.
